Privacy policy
A short policy for a site that asks for very little: no accounts, no sales, and no reason to keep more than the site needs.
This site is a set of static pages. It has no user accounts, no comment system, no newsletter, no shop and no booking form, so there is very little it could collect even if it wanted to. This page describes the little that remains.
What the pages themselves do
The pages of this journal set no cookies of their own and run no scripts of their own: no analytics tag, no advertising pixel, no embedded video, no font served from a third party. Every image and stylesheet is served from this domain. If that changes, this page changes first, with the date of the change.
What the host may keep
Like any website, this one is served by a hosting provider, and a hosting provider keeps standard technical logs of requests in order to run and protect the service: the address a request comes from, the page requested, the time, and the browser identification string. The desk does not use those logs to identify readers, and it keeps no copy of them. They are held by the host under the host’s own retention rules.
What happens to an email
A message sent to the desk is kept for as long as it is needed to answer it, or to record a correction that was made because of it. The address it came from is used to reply and for nothing else: it is not added to any list, shared with anyone, or published. A reader who wants a message deleted can ask, at the same address, and it will be.
Sightings and photographs
If a reader sends a sighting or a photograph, the desk treats it as a note to the journal. It is not published, and it is not passed to any organisation without the reader being told first and agreeing; the page on %% explains where such records are better sent directly. The desk does not ask for, and does not want, the precise location of a reader’s home or vehicle.
Rights and questions
A reader may ask what the desk holds about them, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, and expect a reply. Questions about this policy go to the same address as everything else, described on the page for %%. This policy applies to this site only; the sources this journal cites are published by other organisations under their own policies.
